Seva Mandir
Seva Mandir is a non profit organization which works towards natural resource development, education, health, women empowerment and child care programmes in rural areas of Udaipur and Rajsamand. This organization was founded by Dr. Mohan Singh Mehta in 1968, the initial focus of Seva Mandir was to promote adult education in rural communities. This idea helped in equipping the rural citizens of Udaipur district with capacities and skills. Later they expanded their horizon of activity by working towards natural resource development work. They believe in Gandhian notion of constructive work which is very helpful in involving the citizens to become engaged in the co-creation of their new social realities.
Objectives
- To create and strengthen institutions for development at village, organization and community levels
- To enhance the self- development capabilities of people at both individual and community level
- To create sustainable improvements in the livelihoods base
Areas of Operation
It works for the development of rural and tribal community in Rajsamand and Udaipur districts. The area of operation covers 626 villages and 56 urban settlements. The organization has reached out to over 70,000 households and have influence lives of more then 360,000 individuals. Presently the Seva Mandir is working in Badgaon, Gogunda, Girwa, Jhadol, Kherwara, Kotra rural blocks in Udaipur, and Khamnor and Kumbhalgrah blocks in Rajsamand.
Programmes
Natural Resource Development: The Natural Resource Development programme of Seva Mandir works towards restoring and regenerating the ecological base of Udaipur and Rajsamand Districts. This programme encompasses:
- Watershed development,
- Clean drinking water,
- Proper sanitation,
- Water resource development,
- Agriculture and livestock,
- Climate change and research of common land,
- Forest management and
- Afforestation of village common lands
Village Institution Programme: This programme creates platforms for the participation of villagers in their own development process. Till today the organization has formed 509 Gram Vikas Committees and 612 Gram Vikas Kosh holding a total of 34,000,000 INR for common good and self-governance.
Health: Seva Mandir is running health programme in target area with a focus on the specific health concerns of three primary population groups women, children and youth.
Education: Seva Mandir is running education programme which focuses on ensuring quality education for rural and tribal children from ages of 6 to 14.
Women and Child Development: The Women and Child Development programmes put emphasis on development of women of rural areas through activities like health, Micro Finance and Natural Resource Management. These programmes are also focused towards the overall development of children in rural areas.
People’s Management School: People’s Management School works towards strengthening knowledge and learning systems at organisational and community levels. This helps in identifying gaps in programmes and make recommendations for improvement.
Child Representative Programme: Child Representative Program is in a collaboration with Plan International to raise funds and technical knowledge for the development of child. Plan Internation is a major partner of this organization and it raises funds by sponsoring children from marginalized backgrounds.
